Each card of a deck of playing cards has a solar value. The natural order of the suits is from hearts, clubs, diamonds, and spades. Based on this order, a solar value is assigned to the first heart (Ace) and continues to the last spade (King). The Joker has a solar value of zero.
The spot value of a card is the visible pips on the card, with the exception of the Face, Ace, and Joker cards. The spot values for the King, Queen, Jack, Ace, and Joker are 13, 12, 11, 1, and 1/4, respectively.
The suit value of a card is based on the suit in the natural order of the cards. The natural order of the suits is from hearts, clubs, diamonds, and spades. Hearts have a suit value of zero. Clubs have a suit value of thirteen. Diamonds have a suit value of twenty-six. Spades have a suit value of thirty-nine. Suit values are also known as quarter values.
By adding the Spot and Suit values of a card together, the total equals the card's Solar value, with the exception of the Joker.
